Research Interests
The React Lab, led by Dr. Rodolphe Jazzar at San Diego State University, explores the frontiers of molecular reactivity through the design of advanced catalysts, the study of unconventional bonding, and the mechanistic dissection of complex transformations. Rooted in main group chemistry (with a special focus on carbenes and related carbon allotropes) we aim to open new pathways for selective catalysis, asymmetric synthesis, and small-molecule activation. From isolating elusive intermediates to developing ligands that sculpt metal behavior with precision, our work bridges fundamental and applied science, uniting synthesis, crystallography, and theoretical insight.
Our approach is collaborative by design. With strong academic ties to the chemistry division of the French National Centre for Scientific Research (CNRS Chimie) and Rennes Institute of Chemical Sciences in France, we aim to foster a research culture that is international, interdisciplinary, and innovation driven. In the United States, we are fortunate to collaborate with leading research groups to transform molecular discoveries into impactful strategies that address pressing challenges in energy, materials science, and pharmaceutical chemistry. At the same time, we invest deeply in people by offering our students immersive, cross-cultural scientific experiences and preparing the next generation of researchers to thrive in a global, collaborative landscape.
